I'll have to talk to you about this - sorry, got a bit tied up actually working on things before I realised the time - but from my point of view, some things I've being considering:
I wanted to keep the map theme.
My aim was to produce imagery that can be applied cross-media, different from every other band to make you immediately recognisable, so when people see this style, they'll immediately associate it with you.
For the physical media, it would be extremely advantageous for whatever music you're selling to actually be a beautiful, unique object. Because of downloading, there needs to be a very good reason to purchase a piece of plastic, and the object being purchased needs to be held onto and remembered.
So the above is basically just promotional material.
With digital media, the imagery meeds to be small image/s that will be recognisable at very small resolutions - iphones, itunes and clones, people's music folders on the computer etc etc
The map idea can transfer immediately and obviously to flyers & posters. These need to be, respectively, poster-like enough for people to want to keep & stick up on the wall, and beautiful enough to rip off a wall and steal. Or buy.
Above all else, the art, if you want it in the end, must actually help to make you more successful. And it must be value for money, which at this stage = cheap.
